The US and Nepal ( US Nepal Relations ) signed the Millennium Corporation Challenge ( MCC Project ) agreement five years ago . Under which Nepal will get 500 million dollars from America for its development. But he is not giving final approval to this agreement under pressure from China . Meanwhile, China said on Friday that it was against "coercive diplomacy" and aid at the cost of sovereignty. He has said this when recently, while giving the deadline of February 28, Nepal was said by the US that it is not being approved due to 'external influence and corruption'.
Nepal's ruling coalition meeting to support the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement remained inconclusive for the second day on Friday. China has jumped into the ongoing political debate in Kathmandu amid differences among Nepal's political parties over whether or not to accept the US infrastructure aid program. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Beijing was "delighted" to see international aid to Nepal, but the aid should be without any political binding.
There should be no political bond - China
"Such cooperation should be based on full respect for the wishes of the Nepalese people and there should be no political binding," Wang said. "We oppose coercive diplomacy and an agenda based on selfish interests at the expense of the sovereignty of other countries," he said. "As a friend and close neighbor of Nepal and a development partner, China will, as always, support the Nepalese people to freely choose their development path," he said. It will also support Nepal in choosing the right option keeping in mind its national interests and the will of the people.
America had warned
Last week, the US asked Nepal to ratify the proposed grant-in-aid from the US under the MCC by February 28, warning that Washington would cut its ties with the Himalayan nation if Kathmandu did not accept the program. Will review and in the event of its failure, will hold China's interest responsible. Political polarization is being seen in Nepal regarding whether US infrastructure grants should be accepted or not.
Who attended the meeting?
Nepal government spokesman Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the meeting of the top leaders of the alliance concluded after a brief discussion on the MCC issue. It was attended by other coalition leaders including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) President Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and CPN-Unified Socialist President Madhav Nepal. He said the discussions remained inconclusive and the next meeting would be held on Sunday morning where a decision would be taken on the issue.
